2019 Pino Noir. Incredible bouquet, stunning nose with wild raspberry, Piedmont cherry, black fruit and elderberry. Great bound Bolivian wild candy, subtle Madagascar vanilla, precious woods. The palate reveals a tight, muscular body with incredible elegance. It is even more Burgundian than usual. Beguilingly ripe, velvety tannins, lots of substance, expansive. Ripe, juicy acidity. This Pinot has the power of a decathlete, yet remains incredibly supple and elegant. Wow, what a Pinot! Drink through 2045.
2019 Gantenbein Chardonnay. The nose literally explodes! A fruit basket full of Amalfi lemons, Hawaiian pineapples, yellow plums and some Peru mangoes. Notes of flint, Tahitian vanilla, subtle toasted notes show up as well. Great integrated wood, lightly toasted Piedmont hazelnut, very mineral. Incredible fruit shines on the palate with ripe, juicy acidity, slightly saline. The wine floats elegantly, its body is to die for, the finish is everlasting. Many white Burgundies can take a leaf out of this book. Grandiose, downright electrifying. Drink until 2040.
2019 Gantenbein Riesling. Wow! What a great nose! White currants, wild peach and juicy nectarine, Hawaiian pineapple. Mineral, slightly salty note, juicy on the palate. Ripe, infectious, crisp acidity, long lasting and infinitely elegant. The finesse is beguiling, so truly brilliant. For me, the best Riesling the Gantenbeins have ever made. Drink until 2045.
For me, Martha and Daniel Gantenbein are among the best winegrowers in Switzerland, its wines are also some of the best internationally. Unforgettable are also the unfortunately much too few evenings together, dear Martha and dear Daniel, that we were able to enjoy with you and your family at the table. This evenings are hard to top!
