2018 Pino Noir. Incredible bouquet, breathtaking nose with wild raspberries, Piedmont cherry, black fruits and elderberry. Beautifully blended Bolivian wild joggi, subtle Madagascan vanilla, precious woods. The palate shows a firm, muscular body with incredible elegance. He is even more Burgundian than usual. Enchantingly ripe, velvety tannins, lots of substance, expansive. Ripe, juicy acidity. This Pinot has the power of a decathlete and yet remains incredibly smooth and elegant. Wow, what a Pinot! Drink until 2045.
2018 Gantenbein Chardonnay. The nose is literally exploding! A fruit basket full of Amalfi lemons, Hawaiian pineapple, yellow plums and some Peru mangoes. In addition there are notes of flint, Tahitian vanilla, subtle toasted notes. Great integrated wood, lightly roasted Piedmont hazelnut, very mineral. Shines in the palate an incredible fruit with ripe, juicy acidity, slightly salty. The wine floats elegantly, his body is a poem, the finish is eternally long. Many white Burgundians can take a leaf out of his book. It’s terrific, almost electrifying. Drinking until 2040.
2018 Gantenbein Riesling. Wow! What a great nose! White currants, wild peach and juicy nectarine, Hawaiian pineapple. Mineral, slightly salty note, juicy on the palate. Mature, rousing, crisp acidity, long lasting and endless elegant. The finesse is beguiling, truly ingenious. For me the best Riesling the Gantenbeins ever made. Drinking until 2045.
For me, Martha and Daniel Gantenbein are among the best winegrowers in Switzerland, its wines are also some of the best internationally. Unforgettable are also the unfortunately much too few evenings together, dear Martha and dear Daniel, that we were able to enjoy with you and your family at the table. This evenings are hard to top!
